The Interpretive Center of Atouguia da Baleia aims to study, value and disseminate the historical and cultural heritage of the county, providing an integrated view of the Historic Region of Atouguia da Baleia. To this end, it encompasses knowledge of diverse scientific areas ranging from geology and paleontology to archeology and history, as well as human geography and anthropology. Its management takes on a tripartite character, associating three entities - Municipality of Peniche, Local Governement of Atouguia da Baleia and Factory of the Parochial Church of the Parish of São Leonardo de Atouguia da Baleia.
